Bloomingdale’s first location of a new concept store will be in Fairfax, Virginia and open on August 26, 2021. It will be small, only 22,000 square feet. So, they shortened the name to “Bloomie’s” which has been the nickname for the company for a long time.
The store will be located in the Mosaic District shopping center and will feature a curated assortment of fashions for women and men. There will also be a beauty selling area. In addition, the store features a restaurant called “Colada Shop” which will feature Cuban food and be designed to reflect a Caribbean style of socializing. There will be stylists throughout the store who will be equipped with digital selling devices that will allow them to quickly access special finds for customers from nearby Bloomingdale’s stores.
The store will be highly curated with top brands so that shoppers will find the best of Bloomingdale’s in this new location. The store focus on women’s fashion will include famous brand names like Ganni, Maje, Rag & Bone, Cult Gaia, Jonathan Simkhai, Jimmy Choo, 3.1 Philip Lim, and Proenza Schouler, along with handbags from Mansur Gavriel and Marc Jacobs and accessories from Gucci, Celine, Dior, Saint Laurent and Prada among others. Special attention will be given to women’s active wear, with assortments from Adidas by Stella McCartney, Alo Yoga, Koral, Y-3, and Nike.
Tony Spring, CEO of Bloomingdale’s, said: “Bloomie’s has always been a term of affection from our loyal customers. Our new Bloomie’s store will be a style and service destination featuring new store experience and design concepts, and a distinct assortment of advanced contemporary and luxury brands across women’s and men’s fashion and beauty.”
To celebrate the new store, Bloomie’s will host activities in the Mosaic District throughout August. Bloomie’s will also invite the community to a variety of festivities during the opening week.
I anticipate future openings of additional Bloomie’s stores in strategic locations. The small size makes it relatively easy to find good locations in upscale neighborhoods throughout the United States. I believe in the post-pandemic era this will be a good development for growth of Bloomingdale’s. This fashion brand is clearly on the move. I can visualize rapid growth of Bloomie’s in many suburban locations. It will be interesting to watch.
