Jordan Vogt-Roberts Does His Best To Placate ‘Gundam’ Fans About The Upcoming Live-Action Movie

What with the news in April that the live-action Gundam film would be coming to Netflix, we now have its director Jordan Vogt-Roberts trying to tells fans that everything will be okay.

Ignoring the fact that there is a whole meme about Netflix live-action anime adaptations, Jordan has been given the unenviable task of proving the creative worth of this new movie.

He seems like a nice enough guy, apparently built gunpla as a kid and even mentioned series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. That said, this does feel like a stunt to somehow get ahead of the international Gundam fanbase. I am not sure this was the best strategy.

All anyone wants, including Jordan by the looks of it, is this new live-action Gundam movie to be decent and true to the storied mythos that birthed it. So not showing any of the character or mecha designs does feel like an obvious oversight here.

Talking of designs, in case you are at all curious, the Gundam toy to the left of Jordan in the video (shown below) is the Metal Structure Nu Gundam. This being one of the most popular Gundam designs of all time and was originally designed by Yutaka Izubuchi for the movie Gundam: Char’s Counterattack.

Anyway, I really hope this live-action Gundam movie ends up being good, I just don’t think taking this approach was overly wise.

Here’s hoping the trailer puts my and everyone else’s concerns to rest about this new movie project, as I don’t think any of us can handle another misfire from Hollywood when it comes to more movie adaptations of anime.
