NBA Playoffs 2021 Bracket, TV Schedule, Odds And Game 4 Picks

The Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies are set to go head-to-head this evening in the feature contest of the 2021 NBA Playoffs’ Memorial Day doubleheader. This pivotal Game 4 begins at 9:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on TNT, with viewers who prefer to live stream being able to do so through the WatchTNT website and suite of apps.

Utah—the No. 1 in the Western Conference—brings a 2-1 lead into the contest, but No. 8 Memphis has shown the ability to topple them. The Grizzlies stunned their opponent in the series opener, allowing them to avoid falling into a dreaded 0-3 hole—a deficit no squad has ever fought back from during the NBA Playoffs—but can’t afford to lose again before the series returns to Salt Lake City.

History has not been kind to clubs going down 1-3 during a series, as only 13 teams have managed to fight back with three consecutive wins to advance. Only one of those improbable victors was a No. 8 seed in the first round, with the 2003 Detroit Pistons accomplishing the feat during the first year the league expanded the opening set of postseason series from five to seven games.

If the Grizzlies do manage to win this series, they would become just the sixth team to knock off a top-seeded opponent in the opening round. The odds are certainly against it happening again, as the Nuggets are both favored tonight and to close out the series.

Jazz at Grizzlies Betting Overview

Game 4 Odds

Spread: UTA -5.5

The public loves the Jazz as a favorite in Game 4. That much is evident when looking at the betting trends for this contest, which show Utah has generated an incredible 88% of tickets and 98% of the handle.

Despite the near-unanimous public support for the visiting team, oddsmakers have not moved the point spread off its opening number of UTA -5.5. Sharps are making a contrarian play on the contest, fading the masses and hoping the ‘dog can keep things close tonight.

Total: Over/Under 225 points

The trends surrounding Game 4’s total show this line is far more polarizing amongst the public than the point spread. As of Monday morning, 62% of bets made are on the over, but only 11% of the cash wagered is on that side. Casual players will be rooting for a barn-burner, but the bigger backers believe this will be a low-scoring, defensive-minded matchup.

While the under has drawn a large majority of the cash, bookmakers have still raised the total by a point, moving the line to 225 points after opening it at 224 points.

Moneyline: UTA -230, MEM +190

The Jazz are heavily favored to push their opponent to the brink of elimination tonight. They are getting -230 moneyline odds, which means backers would need to put up $2.30 to win $1 on the team outright winning by any margin. The Grizzlies are a +190 favorite, returning $1.90 for each $1 risked on an upset.

These odds imply a probability of 70% that Utah is the winning side this evening and a 34% chance that Memphis finds a way to best its opponent. These percentages eclipse 100% due to the vigorish, which is the cut a bookie takes for facilitating bets.

Most bettors believe the Jazz should find a way to win on Memorial Day, with 83% of tickets written on the visitors. The big money is on Utah as well, with the team garnering an impressive 99% of the handle.

Game 4 Picks: UTA -5.5

Series Odds

Although they lost in Game 1, Vegas believes that the Jazz will not falter again during the first round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs. The latest betting lines reveal that a 4-1 Utah victory is the odds-on favorite out of all the possible outcomes in this series, while 4-2 and 4-3 wins for the Jazz are the second- and third-most likely results, respectively.

One would need to risk $30 to win a single dollar on the Jazz advancing into the second round, while those that believe the Grizzlies will find a way to win three more games in this series can net $11.20 for each $1 they put up at the current series price.

These aren’t surprising odds given the Jazz are one of the biggest favorites to capture the franchise’s first NBA Finals championship this year. The team is the top contender in the West, getting 2-1 odds to advance through that half of the NBA Playoff bracket. Utah is behind only the Nets for an overall winner this year, getting +460 odds to accomplish the feat.

Memphis, unlikely to even make it out of this round, isn’t a serious contender for either the Western Conference Finals or a Larry O’Brien Trophy. That is reflected in the club’s incredibly long odds, which would pay out between $16 and $25 dollars for each $1 risked on the Grizzlies advancing deep into the postseason.
