NCT Dream Becomes The First Group (That Isn’t BTS) To Score One Incredible Award In Korea

Almost exactly two months ago, NCT Dream finally released its debut album after tears of delivering successful EPs and hit singles. Fans were ready for the set, titled Hot Sauce, and they rushed to grab a copy the minute it was made available. Now, not only has it become a huge win for the group, it’s earned a piece of recognition that only one other act in South Korean history has managed to snag.

Every month, Gaon, an organization based in South Korea tasked with putting together weekly, monthly and annual charts and doling out other honors, reveals which songs and albums have earned special and coveted certifications after they’ve achieved a certain number of units. In the roundup released just a short time ago, NCT Dream was included in the July album certifications, and the band has managed a truly incredible feat.

Hot Sauce is one of three albums that received certifications this time around, and the award bestowed upon it is historic. NCT Dream’s first full-length was certified two million for selling at least that many copies. It isn’t the first set to collect that prize, but the win does make NCT Dream just the second South Korean act to do so.

Up until now, only BTS had ever collected a two million certification for an album in the Asian nation. The septet has already seen five releases—Map of the Soul: 7 and Map of the Soul: Persona (four million), Be (three million) and both Love Yourself: Answer and Love Yourself: Tear (two million)—hit at least two million status in the country.

A number of popular albums by incredibly successful acts, such as EXO, Seventeen and Blackpink have all reached million certification status, but for now, only BTS and NCT Dream have managed to progress further.
