During their annual Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled their newest offering, the 15-inch MacBook Air. Within days of its announcement, Amazon began offering a pre-order discount of almost $50, reducing the price to $1,249.99 as compared to the retail price of $1,299 announced by Apple. Although there is no flashy sale announcement, the price reduction does make Amazon the cheapest option available. The discount is applicable for the 256GB storage option in either Silver or Midnight color. Also, the larger versions with 512GB storage capacity are also available for $49 off, but only for the Starlight or Space Gray colors.
Amazon has a reputation for offering small yet noticeable discounts on new and in-demand products with the hope of luring customers to buy these products on its site, instead of the competition. For many months prior to the announcement, rumors about Apple releasing a laptop with a large enough screen for productivity enthusiasts, without the Pro model’s premium price and excessive processing power, had been making rounds.
Our deputy editor, Cherlynn Low, had the opportunity to try out the newest MacBook at WWDC and is impressed with its light weight, thinness, 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display, 1080p camera, and an 18-hour battery life. The M2 chip has an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, just like the 13-inch MacBook Air, which performs remarkably well. The larger MacBook Air offers similar specifications as the smaller model, with 8GB of RAM, and either 256GB or 512GB storage (which can be upgraded up to 2TB of SSD). Additionally, it retains the same two Thunderbolt 4 ports with MagSafe plug for power and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Currently available for pre-order on Amazon, the new MacBook Air will start shipping next week.
