Olivia Rodrigo rules over the Billboard 200 albums chart this week with her debut full-length Sour, which starts atop the tally with one of the largest opening sums in recent memory. The title did manage to sell well, but it performed exceptionally well on sites like Spotify and Apple Music, and now all of the plays the 11 songs featured on the project racked up in the last tracking period have helped the teen singer-songwriter make history and top a record held by perhaps the most powerful woman in the music industry.
On this week’s Streaming Songs chart, Billboard’s ranking of the tunes that racked up the largest play counts on streaming-only platforms, Rodrigo occupies eight spaces inside the top 10. That’s not the best showing of all time when looking at all musicians, but when focusing solely on female acts, it is now a new record.
Before this week, Taylor Swift held this piece of history, as she sent half a dozen tunes into the uppermost tier on the Streaming Songs chart at once just last year, according to Billboard.
Steady at No. 1 for a second week is Rodrigo’s current single “Good 4 U,” which opened in first place last time around. Up to a new peak of No. 2 is previous promotional focus “Deja Vu,” which rockets from No. 20 all the way to the runner-up spot. Just one other tune that arrived before Sour was made available in full, previous chart-topper “Drivers License,” appears inside the top 10 on the Streaming Songs chart this week. That global smash lifts from No. 37 to No. 10.
Five new Sour cuts blast onto the Streaming Songs chart inside the top 10, with two opening inside the highest half of the tier. Only a pair of non-Rodrigo tracks are able to find space between Nos. 1 and 10, and one of them starts off in that area. BTS’s “Butter” launches at No. 4, while Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss Me More” pushes back into the top 10, improving from No. 11 to No. 8.
The remaining three Sour tracks that don’t appear inside the top 10 this week do land inside the top 20, with “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back,” “Jealousy, Jealousy” and “Hope Ur Ok” starting off at Nos. 11, 15 and 19, respectively.
