June is off to a huge start when looking at the boy bands that dominate the South Korean music industry, as one highly-anticipated project has already been released and there’s plenty more on the way. In fact, while just five titles are noted below, there are several other studio efforts coming from major players in the K-pop field, with all-male acts like N.Flying and Ghost9 also dropping what will surely be successful collections as summer begins as well!
Here are five of the most highly-anticipated K-pop releases coming in June.
June 1 – Monsta X – One of a Kind
Released the first day of the month, One of a Kind is Monsta X’s ninth EP and their first Korean-language release since last November. The short project was fronted by the lead single “Gambler,” which hasn’t yet had a chance to chart all around the world. So far, all of the band’s EPs have broken into the top five on the Gaon Albums chart in their home country of South Korea, and there’s no reason to believe this latest project won’t also become a sales success.
June 7 – EXO – Don’t Fight the Feeling
It’s been almost four years since EXO released an EP, though that doesn’t mean they’ve been quiet during that time. In fact, in between relatively short sets, the band has doled out complete albums (in more than one language, no less) and several live recordings. Don’t Fight the Feeling is slated to drop tomorrow (June 7), and it will be powered by a single of the same name.
June 9 – WEi – Identity: Action
It’s been less than a year since WEi unleashed their first collection, which kicked off the Identity: series, and they’re about to continue it with another release, Identity: Action. The third EP in the string of projects could easily become the third top 10 for the group, as the other two have risen into the top five. The band is on the hunt for a real hit in the home country, and perhaps lead single “Bye Bye Bye” will become that smash.
June 14 – Up10tion – Connection
10-member vocal band Up10tion are coming back in mid-June with Connection, their second full-length, which arrives three years after their debut album. The set follows a string of successful EPs, and the group has now appeared inside the top 10 on the Gaon Albums ranking with at least a dozen projects…but just like WEi, they seem to be waiting for a proper chart-topping single.
June 18 – Seventeen – Your Choice
Seventeen’s ninth EP Your Choice is coming on June 18, and all signs point to it being yet another massive seller for the beloved K-pop boy band and recent Billboard Music Award nominees. The group released two EPs in 2020, and both of them have been certified for selling at least one million copies in the Asian nation. That’s a huge feat for any act, and they could quickly collect a third such win.
